Stink Bugs Are On Their Way!

Previous Post | Next Post

If they are not back already, chances are that you will begin to see those shield shaped critters around your home and property soon. Stink bugs in Pennsylvania spend the fall months looking for a warm, cozy place to spend the winter. But homeowners beware: stay vigilant, do not let stink bugs get into your home because while they are not dangerous to your health or home, they sure are a pain to get rid of. What can you do to prevent stink bugs from getting into your home this fall? Here are a few tips from the stink bug control professionals at Moyer Indoor | Outdoor:

  1. Block off entry points. If you have a small tear in a window screen or the weather striping around a door is worn and you can see a gap, stink bugs could use these spaces to easily move inside. Replace screens with tears, apply new weather strip to doors in need, and seal off any other entry points around the home including the foundation!

  2. Turn off the lights. Stink bugs are attracted to lights just like moths are. So try to keep your porch lights off when the sun goes down and pull the blinds down on windows so that they are not attracted to the lights on the inside of the home.

  3. Reduce moisture. Stink bugs and many other pests can be attracted to moist areas both inside and outside of the home. Do your best to eliminate moist areas especially in areas like the basement, bathrooms, and laundry room.

  4. Trim the trees. But cutting back branches, bushes and shrubs, you can also reduce the threat of stink bugs. You want to trim back your landscaping so that it is not touching the side of the home thus creating a bridge for stink bugs to crawl onto the exterior of the home.
